Tyler Officials Approve New Traffic Signal on Old Jacksonville Highway
TYLER, Texas ( KETK ) — The Tyler City Council On Wednesday, the Texas Department of Transportation consented to set up a traffic light at the junction where Old Jacksonville Highway meets Capital Drive.

In 2023, a signal warrant indicated that the intersection sees sufficient traffic volumes, particularly due to the expansion of the Brookshire Grocery Company’s distribution facility close to Capital Drive, justifying the installation of a traffic light. The anticipated total construction expense for the city stands at $314,453, which will be covered by funds from the City’s Half Cent Sales Tax initiative.
The City of Tyler, TxDot Brookshire Grocery will collaborate to set up this signal, and TxDot intends to expand Old Jacksonville Highway to six lanes, with construction scheduled to begin in 2028.
