Fan Plummets 21 Feet Onto Warning Track During Intense Cubs-Pirates Game

During the seventh inning of the Wednesday game between the Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, a spectator fell from the right-field stands into the warning track, which was about 21 feet beneath them.

The match was held up for 10 minutes as medical personnel and both teams’ athletic trainers secured the injured supporter onto a backboard before removing him from the pitch.

Several Chicago Cubs players used the break in gameplay to kneel down and pray for the unidentified spectator who had clung to the railing with both hands before flipping over from the stands and landing on their upper torso as Pittsburgh's Andrew McCutchen hit a double during the seventh inning.

Shortly after the home team secured a 4-3 victory against the Cubs, the Pirates issued a statement.

This evening, during the seventh inning of the match at PNC Park, an adult man dropped from the right-field stands onto the playing field.

Pittsburgh EMS along with the athletic training crews from the Pirates and Cubs, plus additional staff members of PNC Park, sprang into action right away and provided medical attention. The individual was then taken to Allegheny General Hospital. More details are not accessible at present.

Our condolences and support go out to him and his family.
