Temple, TX Authorities Order Evacuation Amid Gas Leak Crisis

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - The Temple Fire and Rescue reports that they ordered evacuations in the area on Wednesday afternoon because of a gas leak.
Around 4:28 PM, according to Temple Fire and Rescue, they were dispatched to the vicinity of Nugent Avenue and North Main Street due to reports of a gas leak.
Upon arrival, officials discovered that a construction team had struck a gas line during their work, as reported by Temple Fire.
Temple Fire reports that firefights secured the zone and ordered an evacuation within a two-block perimeter surrounding the gas leak.
Around 9 p.m., according to Temple Fire, the gas leak had been secured, and the evacuation order was rescinded.
According to Temple Fire, crews will remain in the area to address the cleanup from the incident.
Moreover, Temple Fire states that two roads will stay shut down for multiple hours: 4th Street between Oakland and Nugent, as well as Nugent from 4th Street extending to 2nd Street.
