Students Gain Real-World Healthcare Experience Through Simulation

SCOTT County, Iowa (KWQC) - On Wednesday, students gained practical experience through a healthcare simulation event.
Over thirty students signed up to participate in the event, highlighting collaboration between students and staff from various disciplines in a realistic emergency situation.
"I believe that's something people overlook in the healthcare sector—the extent of our collaboration," stated India Hawkins, who is pursuing a degree in nursing at Scott Community College.
The participants mentioned that the demonstration highlights how it requires a collaborative effort from a team to provide patients with the necessary care.
It wasn't only us nursing students; we also had participants from radiology, dentistry, surgical technology, as well as the entire medical sector involved," Hawkins stated. "Seeing everyone unite to provide care for a single patient really highlighted the extensive resources needed. It's truly remarkable how effectively we collaborate to support individuals within our local community.
The Eastern Iowa Community Colleges organized the event as part of Community College Month.
