Fiori's: Beloved Pittsburgh Pizzeria Closed After Storm Rips Off Roof

On Wednesday, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro traveled to Pittsburgh to assess the destruction caused by the fatal storms. He stopped at Fiori’s pizza place, an iconic local eatery, which had been deemed unsafe following significant wind damage that tore off its roof.

For 49 years, Fiori's has been an established landmark in the South Hills community. The owners assure that they anticipate only a brief closure. Shapiro visited the pizza joint on Capital Avenue to discuss obtaining assistance for this family-run enterprise.

"One moment there was a strong blast of wind along with the rain, and then I heard this huge, thunderous explosion," stated Melinda Rich, who is one of the family owners.

Rich hurried outdoors and spotted a large stack of timber beside the structure.

She mentioned it was the ceiling. She wasn't aware of what it was at all.

On Wednesday, employees from Burns & Scalo construction arrived, efficiently clearing away the rubble with plans to install a temporary roof so they could get the business operational again soon.

"Earlier today, Mayor Gainey visited and had a meeting with the Fiori family. He mentioned that if we manage to reinstall the temporary roof, they might rescind the condemnation order," explained Derek Dennick from Burns & Scalo.

"D gotta get those guys back into action. There're plenty of folks who enjoy their pizza," Dennick stated.

The city has stated that they will conduct another inspection after the installation of the new roof, suggesting that the condemnation might then be removed. Rich believes it won’t take much longer before they can serve their famous pizzas to their devoted customers once more.

"So you all plan to persist?" questioned KDKA-TV's Andy Sheehan.

"Absolutely, we specialize in Fiori's work. That’s what we excel at," Rich stated.

The city will decide when Fiori's can reopen, but these workers are attempting to outpace the upcoming rainfall and complete the roof by tomorrow.
