Shooter at Butler Plaza Walmart Hospitalizes 1; Suspect Surrenders

Gainesville, FL (WCJB)—Law enforcement has apprehended a suspect following a shooting incident at a local Walmart late Wednesday evening.
Gainesville Police officers and Alachua County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the Walmart at Butler Plaza at around 10 p.m. to reports of a shooting.
As reported by GPD authorities, an argument broke out among two males and one female just outside the store. This disagreement intensified as they entered the shop, whereupon the assailant drew a firearm and fired at the target.
The suspect ran away from the location and eventually surrendered to the GPD.
A shopper who was present at the store during the shooting described the scene as chaotic inside the premises.
"We witnessed all sorts of items like food, shoes, purses, and shopping carts going everywhere, with people desperately attempting to exit through the doors. It was absolute chaos," stated Makenzie Mott.
TRENDING: A palm tree commemorating one of the students killed in 1990 seems to have perished.
The injured person was taken to UF Health Shands Hospital. They continue to be in stable but critical condition.
Law enforcement authorities state that the incident is currently being investigated. His identity has not been made public by officials yet.
