Rockies End 8-Game Skid but Still Suffer Worst April in MLB History

A narrow 2-1 victory The victory over the Atlanta Braves on Wednesday was unable to prevent the Colorado Rockies from securing the poorest April performance ever recorded in Major League Baseball history.

Following their 8-2 defeat on Tuesday, the Rockies managed to recover, breaking an eight-game losing streak and leaving them with a 5-25 season record.

In the previous season, the Chicago White Sox ended up with the lowest win-loss record in contemporary baseball history , yet they still accumulated six wins by the end of April. As reported The Athletic The Rockies are set to lose 135 games, which is 14 more losses than Chicago's total of 121 last year.

Despite the Rockies not being recognized as a victorious team, their poor performance at the beginning of this season represents an alarming decline compared to past years. Over 33 years since becoming a club, Colorado has experienced just nine profitable campaigns and qualified for the postseason merely five times. Their best year came in 2007, even though they ended up losing all games against the Boston Red Sox in the World Series.

If the Rockies continue at this rate, they might be able to compete with the 1899 Cleveland Spiders' dismal performance. The Spiders hold the record for the poorest win-loss ratio in Major League Baseball history, finishing with just 20 wins against 134 losses, and managed only 7 victories out of their initial 29 matches.

The guys are furious. They're extremely upset. Use whatever strong terms you'd like," Rockies manager Bud Black stated, as reported by The Athletic. "They are professional baseball players who aim to win games and perform well, but collectively things haven’t gone their way. There simply aren’t enough players stepping up their game right now.

Luckily for the Rockies, they have an opportunity to revive their season over the coming five months. The team is set to start their upcoming series against the San Francisco Giants on Thursday.
