Restaurants and Retail Shops Join Club Pheasant's Revitalization Plan

One of West Sacramento's Most historical sites made significant progress towards rejuvenation.

The West Sacramento Municipal Council approved plans Wednesday that would transform the vacant Club Pheasant site into a commercial space featuring restaurants and retail shops, according to a city staff report.

The previously occupied site at 2525 Jefferson Boulevard has remained vacant since June 2022, after the Palamidessi family shut down Club Pheasant, which had operated for 87 years. In December 2022, the municipality committed $3.4 million to buy the land from them post-retirement.

The development plan includes 19,000 square feet of interior area along with an extra 10,500 square feet outdoors designed to accommodate as many as seven eateries and retail stores. Temple Coffee and Jack’s Urban Eats are set to be part of this initiative.

City officials mentioned that they are currently in talks with various prospective restaurant operators, encompassing ideas such as Greek cuisine, Asian-influenced dishes, and establishments centered around burgers.

The upcoming occupants consist of a community-focused Italian eatery, an updated version of the Club Pheasant bar, and a specific area designated as a retail spot for local enterprises. This 1,200-square-foot retail section will be property of the city.

The upcoming Club Pheasant bar will be crafted by the same team responsible for various popular spots in Sacramento such as Ro Sham Beaux, The Snug, The Butterscotch Den, and the recently shuttered de Vere’s Irish Pub.

It is anticipated that this project will generate over 200 additional job opportunities in the region.

The $1.5 million deal encompasses clauses to preserve the historic architectural features of the initial Club Pheasant structure and imposes limitations to prohibit the establishment of establishments like liquor outlets or gas stations.

The Club Pheasant's website is based at the Southport Town Center, a well-liked shopping complex dominated by Target and Nugget Market as key tenants.
