THE WHARF— Scotland’s decorated seafood stop Fish Shop crossed the Atlantic to set up shop at the Wharf on Tuesday, April 29. This Bib Gourmand-selected eatery and fish market, recognized as one of the best new restaurants around the globe last year by Conde Nast Traveller , develops a Yankees-themed adaptation of the well-loved original that has caught the attention of King Charles III. The high-end arts industry catering company Artfarm , the team from London responsible for New York's newest Manuela , enlisted two seasoned D.C. professionals to spearhead operations at Fish Shop’s inaugural U.S. outpost. The chef de cuisine will be overseen by these experts. GLOVER PARK— One year following the premiere of the initial version In Mount Pleasant, a burger bar evokes feelings of nostalgia. Joia On Wednesday, April 9, they added a second (and significantly larger) location in D.C. Joy-filled Joia is brought to you by chef/owner Patrice Cleary, who is also behind the key Filipino restaurant. Purple Patch In Mount Pleasant, Joia 2.0 in Glover Park keeps serving up its well-loved wagyu beef (or vegetarian bean) smashed burgers available as single, double, or triple patty options topped with chopped papaya slaw on either a potato or gluten-free bun. The concise menu also includes skin-on shoestring fries along with ube soft serve for dessert. WEST END— A group of three natives from New York City responsible for the consistently busy Greek eatery in Dupont. Balos extend operations into the northwest with the planned launch in mid-April Bar Angie , a vibrant new bistro featuring European charm and live jazz music on multiple evenings each week. The hearty dishes served evoke nostalgia for the owners, such as wagyu French dip sandwiches, Bolognese-style blanc rigatoni pasta, and Caesar salads adorned with deep-fried cream cheese croutons. This establishment places significant emphasis on martinis; one notable example being "Angie’s Dirty Duo," which combines both vodka and gin along with blue cheese-stuffed olives, comes with an additional generous serving size, and includes extra garnishments. Based in New York City, this venue offers much more than just dining—it promises an immersive experience. KALORAMA— Daniel Petitti, previously the sous chef at the Michelin-starred restaurant JÔNT, launched a promising new neighborhood grocery store and deli called Kalorama Market. The recently opened takeaway restaurant (which has taken over the former Opendoor Market location) boasts walls lined with wine bottles, shelves stocked with imported pasta varieties, and baskets overflowing with fresh produce like seasonal veggies and fruits sourced directly from nearby farms. VAN NESS— The Whale Tea A boba brand originating from New Haven, Connecticut, close to Yale University, opened its inaugural location in Washington D.C. NAVY YARD— Right on schedule for the start of baseball season, Duke’s at the Navy Yard was revamped into a cozy new establishment known as Duke’s Dive Bar. Problem Child Owner Daniel Kramer’s inviting establishment serves up $4 selected beers around the clock, along with enjoyable shooters, straightforward cocktails, and dishes such as honey-bourbon baby back ribs, a PBJ sandwich topped with bacon, and free popcorn. The walls are decorated with items ranging from Washington D.C.’s sports collectibles to old wooden skis. It opens at 5 p.m., though this can be earlier depending on events happening at Nationals Park, during concerts, or Formula One races. Additionally, Kramer has crafted an East London-themed pub here.
