Cardinal DiNardo Reveals Conclave Preparations in Rome

Cardinals from across the globe have convened at the Vatican to ready themselves for the conclave aimed at selecting the new pontiff. This age-old custom will commence on May 7th.

KHOU 11’s Ron Treviño interviewed Daniel Cardinal DiNardo, who is eligible to participate in the conclave and has been through this process previously.

"Good morning, Cardinal DiNardo, what’s the situation in Rome today?" Treviño inquired.

"Everything is good today, Ron. Following the meeting this morning, I enjoyed a delicious plate of pasta at my current location," DiNardo mentioned.

The cardinals are convening to engage in talks regarding the future, an important matter as they come together from across the globe.

"What exactly are these discussions involving the other cardinals about?" Treviño questioned.

DiNardo mentioned that one of the crucial elements is becoming familiar with each other and listening to what others have to say.

According to DiNardo, coffee breaks during these gatherings are crucial for fostering discussions. While the world anticipates selecting a new pope, speculations have begun.

Trevino questioned, 'While bookies are setting bets on who could become the next pope, doesn’t it frequently take an unexpected turn?'

"No matter what the bookmakers claim, Ron, it always turns out to be a surprise," DiNardo responded.

When queried about the number of votes he could get, DiNardo remarked, "Most likely just one, but it certainly won’t be my own vote.”

On May 7, the cardinals will make their way into the Sistine Chapel to start the voting process.

"As you enter, you are imbued with a deeply reverential spirit. It’s quite magnificent, and the cardinals show great respect towards this, aware that they are stepping into the chapel for an extremely significant duty," DiNardo stated.

Until then, it's more meetings and Italian food.

DiNardo remarked, "Today they served the most delicious bowl of aglio olio pasta; it was truly delightful."

Regarding the crucial responsibility of selecting a new pope, DiNardo has requested prayers from parishioners in his diocese.
