John Elway Mourns Loss as Friend Fatally Injured in Golf Cart Accident

April 30 (UPI) -- Jeff Sperbeck, a former sports agent, passed away following injuries sustained when he fell from a golf cart being operated by Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback John Elway.

When leaving a gathering at The Madison Club in La Quinta, California, Sperbeck, who was 62 years old, and Elway, aged 64, witnessed their ex-agent and mutual acquaintance fall and hit his head on the pavement. ESPN reported.

A Riverside County coroner declared Sperbeck passed away at 1:10 a.m. PST on Wednesday at the Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.

Sperbeck was a resident of San Clemente, Calif., and suffered the head injury at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday.

When he dozed off, he was in the passenger seat of the golf cart. He was put on life support prior to passing away.

According to TMZ, Sperbeck was maintained on life support sufficiently long for organ donation purposes. People .

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department is looking into the situation; however, there is no sign of neglect on Elway's part.

During his 16-year professional career with the Denver Broncos, Sperbeck served as Elway's agent.

Elway is also the ex-general manager of the Broncos and had a business relationship with Sperbeck.
